Coombabah Trials: Rescheduled
February 26th, 2018
The SEQ heatwave struck and the first trials of year had to be cancelled. Fortunately, we were able to reschedule the Year 7, 8 and 9 games to February 26th.
The group headed down to Coombabah where the Year 8's kicked off the afternoon under Jay Wilkinson's leadership. Unfortunately the team didn't recieve the result they were after. However, Wilkinson was not disappointed by the outcome and said "...first game of the year, I was happy to see where improvements need to be made."
Next up were the Year 7's. Coach, Cameron Drew, had only one training session together before the game and was surprised how well the boys gelled as a group and worked together for a significant victory. Prestyn Laine-Sietu was named Man-of-the-Match after scoring 2 tries and being dominant in defense.
The afternoon ended with the year 9's taking the field. A squad of 26 players was taken down to represent Wavell with coach, Ben Colley, testing the waters with his group. It was an up and down game, with Wavell narrowly going down by 2 tries.
The boys headed back to Brisbane knowing what needs to be improved before the next trial against Redcliffe.
